VICTOR ANTUNES: My name is Victor Antunes,
Im from Brazil, and Ive been working with Sulcoflex for
three years already, with amazing results. QUESTION: What do you like most about the
Sulcoflex IOL? ANTUNES: Well this lens is just a very good
lens as the material, its very soft and very friendly material. So its not a wild
material so its very easy to implant. And the design, its just perfect because in
our study, we have, we show that the lens never touch one of the other one. So thats
no opacification of the bags IOL in any condition. And we have no pigment redispersion. So were
talking about almost three years of follow-up and we have no glaucomas and no major problems. QUESTION: Can you summarize your experience
with Sulcoflex IOLs? ANTUNES: For me, working with Sulcoflex,
its been very good. It makes me very comfortable to indicate a multifocal to our patients like
the diabetic patient who doesnt have retinopathy yet. So I am very comfortable to implant those
lenses in those patients because if some day they just become with retinopathy or with
any problems, you just can take it out. Today we are going for surgery with middle
age patients. So its those patients looking for surgery to get rid of glasses, thats
been more often. Im very comfortable to implant a Sulcoflex in them because we can
upgrade their technologies in the future without trauma.
QUESTION: What are the benefits of using a pseudophakic supplementary multifocal over
a multifocal in the bag? ANTUNES: When I think in primary multifocal
IOL, Im thinking the future. So whenever you are just putting this multifocal in your
patients in the bag, so this patient will have to live with this technology for the
whole life. With the Sulcoflex, you have one of the best technologies in their eye
for today and with Sulcoflex you just can exchange the lens and upgrade the technology.
So you can upgrade the visual acuity and the quality of vision of those patients with the
new technologies that thats not here yet, but certainly will come.
QUESTION: Do you have any final comments on the Sulcoflex Multifocal?
ANTUNES: What I think about M-Duet, now in those days people, they are not looking carefully
for that but they will in the future. Because whenever new technology will come, only those
patients we can replace the lens as a reversible procedure and upgrade their technologies.
So in the future people will look back and say that was a good technology 10 years ago.
Those lenses, Im being very, very happy and the results, its very similar to regular
multifocal. We have a very good vision for distance, we have a very good distance for
near, and we have a more than 90 percent of satisfaction from those patients in different
activities. So I believe the result is the same from a regular multifocal, but you have
the addition of reversibility.
