Glaucoma Research Foundation has helped to
identify and encourage major research efforts that have improved treatment for glaucoma
patients, and enlisted scientists in the fight to cure glaucoma. Let’s look at some examples
of this catalytic effect. Dr. Tonia Rex. A young scientist with a revolutionary
idea for a new glaucoma treatment. Glaucoma Research Foundation funded her research for
a year so she could gather data to demonstrate the potential of her idea. With that data
Dr. Rex was able to secure a $1.8 million, 5 year grant from the National Eye Institute,
and that grant allowed her to advance her research. Today Dr. Rex is that much closer
to a new therapy to prevent vision loss from glaucoma. On average, scientists we fund receive 4 times
our initial investment in follow on funding to continue their research. The cumulative
effect of this research is providing new treatments used by patients today and will lead to even
more amazing treatments in the future. Research holds the answer…and the cure.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for believing in a world free from glaucoma.
