Paving the Way for Ophthalmology Clinical Research

Paving the Way for Ophthalmology Clinical Research

Ophthalmology techniques in terms of drug
delivery have advanced quite a bit, not just in the type of drug and improvement in drugs
but also in the method, drugs are administered. Research in Ophthalmology has come a very
long way. We have changed our surgical techniques, and we have revamped the way we deliver drugs
and we miniaturize a lot of devices now, so that way we can more effectively treat and
cure a lot of ocular disease. The unique capabilities that WCCT brings to
the table with regards to research, is the active patient database. We have a large established
practice, and we draw upon this for patient populations, not just specific populations
but all types of disease entities. That combined with a consortium of other ophthalmologists
and eye-care providers, we are able to establish a very strong, powerful network. The ophthalmology
research I have been involved with has stemmed all the way from the posterior segment of
the eye, dealing with age-related macular degeneration, Central retinal vein occlusion,
as well as chronic macular edema. The ocular service is another big area where
I have performed research, not just with the cornea but also with the eyelids and the tear
film. The corneal disease in particular, deal with keratoconus, and pellucid marginal degeneration. From doing research in retina and ocular surface,
well that has expanded to looking at preventative care of the ocular health in looking at creating
a more stable tear film for dry eye sufferers or from providing a better eyelid hygiene for
patients with severe Blepharitis inflammation on the eyelids. At the current rate we are going, we should
be able to harvest one of the most robust ophthalmology research entities in the nation.
Currently, with the types of studies and the amount of studies and our patient population,
we have grown significantly over the past year and will continue to do so and I don’t
see an end sight.

  • * Nicole screams, “WHY CAN’T YOU JUST PAY YOUR BILL?!” because I don’t have my statement and you won’t set up a payment plan, how do we correct this, DR SHEETY? *

I'm having a tremendously unpleasant and continued unprofessional experience with Dr Michael Sheety's staff.
This began back in March 2016, my insurance policy lead to an exorbitant charge that I couldn't afford in one sitting. I asked for some help they said they could give me a 20% discount on my payment plan. GUESS WHAT, they refuse to send me the payment plan and have reneged on the discount offer. I like having a monthly paper statement particularly when professional transactions are going sour. It gives me comfort knowing that I have a hard copy record so nothing can be "accidentally" added, omitted, altered, etc. I have to make this uncomfortable call month after month to people who all know me (very small office) so they ALL treat me poorly. I just want my paper statements and a payment plan like we originally discussed. It's certainly my right, after-all it's MY money and credit on the line!
Now it seems that multiple calls are needed each month, I just got off the phone requesting the info again and absorbing belittling comments yet again. When I asked why I need to call each month for my statement and payment plan that I haven't received yet Nicole yelled "WHY CAN'T YOU JUST PAY YOUR BILL?!?!" I'm trying, in fact trying harder than I should have to. This is so frustrating, I'm really hoping I can talk to the Dr Sheety so we can have an intelligent conversation and get a plan of action set up but UGH, what can I do? His Front Office and Billing staff are SO unprofessional, hoping and praying to send my balance to collections. It's the ONLY way I can feel since they continue to be rude, don't send out statements nor return calls and haven’t help me set up a reasonable payment plan. When I ask if I can talk to Dr Sheety, of course, I'm not allowed. Is that because he'll catch wind of how his staff treats his patients? Absolutely YES, the unfortunate part is Dr Sheety is a really nice guy however his staff is running his business away!
