HHMtv Goes to the Eye Doctor at St Joe Vision

Hey Chris what do you think about you
know how things are going in the next quarter I mean I like to think different.
So that’s when I told him try not to suck. I feel like I could work at NASA with
these. That’s right, Brock, I am dangerous. What? **Hold me closer, Tony Danza!** **Laughter** Hey everybody this is Chris with HHMtv
I’m here with Brock and we’re with our friends here at St. Joe Vision and listen taking
care of your eyes is a big deal and we think that this is a great place to come
because they’ve got some great technology here that could really help
you stay on top of your eye care. Absolutely Chris so Angie from our
department is with us today she’s gonna get her eyes checked one of the things
that I like here and I’ve had some eye trouble in the past that they have a
device called the Optomap system. Alright so you’ve seen the eye exam here
at St. Joe Vision and now I have the pleasure of introducing Dr. Martin White.
Dr. White thanks for joining us. Thanks for having me. Not a problem. So getting
an eye exam is so important not only for children but for adults. Take us through
some of the eye exam elements and why it’s so important to do it on a regular
basis. Yeah well the main reason why it’s important is number one the eye is a
representative of lots of other parts of your body. So there’s things you can see
in an eye exam that may tell us there’s something wrong with you otherwise.
So it’s the eye health portion of that eye exam that’s really the most
important. People think of their vision and “can I see or can’t I
see” is why they get their eye exam but there’s so much more than that from
a from a health standpoint. And many of the eye health issues that we see
many of them have no early warning signs or symptoms. So identifying things early
helps us to preserve people’s vision. Sure and with some of that identification one
of the things that I really like about St. Joe vision is some of the
technology that you have here that might be a little different than some other
locations and other other businesses. Yeah absolutely we like to
say that not all eye exams are equal. You can go to places and have an eye exam
where you might be in and out in five minutes and there’s no way you can have
your eyes properly checked like that. So not only do we employ the most recent
technology so that we can identify all these things that we look for early but
we also do a very thorough eye exam with dilating pupils and the kind of things
that really sometimes people aren’t crazy about but in the long run it’s in
their best interest. So Dr. White, with the Optomap you could see things like you
know retina issues early signs of Glaucoma it really gives you a good look
at what might might be trouble down the road
right? Absolutely and as we like to say you know the Optomap gives us a great
view of the inside of the eyes but the doctors here myself and Dr. Middix, we
identify these eye diseases without the technology but the technology is a way
to give us what I would call bonus information and every now and then we do
find something that we we did overlook during the regular. But, the vast majority
of conditions we are going to detect through the comprehensive eye exam. So we
talked a little bit about some of the benefits of the eye exam outside of just
getting your vision corrected what’s the frequency that somebody should come in
to get their eyes examined? So typically a growing person so say from age five to
twenty really should come in once a year and that is a frequency that’s going to
identify changes as they as they grow. After the age of twenty with no symptoms
no family history we recommend one to two years, with the exception of contact
lens wearers and that’s because they are wearing a medical device on their
eyeball and so all contact lens wearers regardless of age should have their eyes
checked on them once a year basis. Good tips. Is there anything else that our
viewers should know about general eye care or eye care health that they should be aware
of? The biggest thing is you just don’t rely on how you see and on your vision
to tell you whether you need to have your eyes checked. If you haven’t had an
eye exam and you’re over the age of ten years old you should have a baseline eye
exam. So you can’t always go by just how you see the world. Alright
folks so there you have it we want to thank everyone at st. Joe Vision for
having us out. And oh, by the way, it’s Contest Time. The folks at St. Joe Vision
and Dr. White they have agreed to give away one pair of prescription Ray Ban
sunglasses. So all you have to do to win is you need to like their Facebook page
like our Facebook page and share this video.
Tag a friend if you think they might want to win these sunglasses as well and
you’ll be entered to win. It’s just that easy. For HHMtv, I’m Brock thanks so much for
watch for watching we’ll see you next time! you
