Griffin – Lee Test [ Sub – ENG ] – Binocular Vision part 5

Hi to everybody and welcome to OptoTubeChannel, the first Italian YouTubeChannel dedicated to Optometry Today let’s talk about Griffin-Lee test, also named Vis-a-Vis, so face to face which is a test usefull to evaluate suppressions. It’s particularly usefull with children during evolutive age or low cooperative patients, so to have a rapid and immediate evaluation of eventual suppressions. This test is performed with polarized filter which are use both from patient and practicioner. Both has the same polarization, so 45 degree polarized filter on right eye, 135 degree polarized filter on left eye For example: practicioner and patient are sit opposite each other, and for this reason the test is called vis-a-vis so face to face, and the patient will see by his/her right eye the practicioner’s right eye, and by his/her left eye practicioner’s left eye. The question that practicioner makes to the patient is : “how many eyes do you see?” The normal answer is : “two” . But in a suppression case the answer will be : “one” So if the patient sees only the practicioner’s right eye, it means that by his/her right he/she is seeing but he/she doesn’t see by left eye, so the which has a suppression is the left eye. So a very simple test can give us an essential information to start for example vision therapy sessions to try to eliminate that suppression and to avoid a visual system deterioration deterioration in the performance of a child or a student in children.
