Geoff Tabin: 30 Seconds on Cataracts

Cataract is a clouding of the crystalline
lens of the eye and things become cloudy, blurry and eventually opaque. And the lens
of the eye is kind of like a Peanut MnM and what we do in modern cataract surgery is that
we make a little opening in the outer candy shell, break up and take out the hard peanut
and suck out the chocolaty mess and then we put the little lens implant, it’s like a
little implantable contact lens, into that little shell that will allow perfect focus.
It’s actually kind of fun to break it down in thirty seconds.
