Bumpons – Shadeen show us how her bumpons help her do her housework independently

Bumpons are small little rubber buttons with a sticky on the back. They seem very insignificant but they make such a difference to people’s lives. I think they’re amazing. My name is Shadine. I suffer with Uveitis
Iritis. It’s an inflammatory disease which has affected the back of my eyes. As a result of that I’ve got no left eye vision and about one percent in my right eye. Well I feel very confident with my Bumpons on my washing machine because they’re set at number two which is for cottons, number four for dark colours and number six for gentle wash. You align your dial with the button where the Bumpon is and then you know what programme you’ve sent your machine on to and no one else has to be there then. And also then you move along and you know that the next Bumpon on the machine is where your start button is. And that’s how I’m able to operate the machine on my own. I really love Bumpons, they make me so happy. It gives me so much liberation to be able
to use my washing machine. I can use my microwave, just through these little buttons. Bumpons come in all different shapes and sizes and you can get them at RNIB’s online shop. Visit rnib.org.uk/shop. [Voiceover] RNIB Supporting people with sight loss.
