The Academy meeting is undoubtedly the
largest educational optometry meeting in the world. It’s one not to miss. I’ve been
coming here for the best part of thirty plus years and it’s something new every
time I come. There’s no other meeting in optometry that has that breadth and
depth of people are engaged in everything about eyes and all framed in
a fellowship type atmosphere. It’s a wonderful meeting place where
optometrists in practice, educators, students, researchers and others who are
interested in the profession can meet at one place. Each year I take back with me
countless new strategies and clinical gems that has transformed how I practice
and help me improve outcomes for my patients. My favorite part is the poster
session. You can actually talk to the author at any moment in time and you
never know when a good conversation of the poster session will actually be gone
the genesis of a new project. There are student events happening here, there’s
the exhibits, but also for educators it’s a wonderful time to meet and discuss the
profession for the student learning and going forward. I’m most excited about the
World Congress of Optometry joining with American Academy of Optometry meeting. I really looking forward to hearing those distinguished speakers and researchers from across the globe. My attendance at Academy meetings began purely as an
educational experience soaking up the latest research learned from the best
but ultimately it’s become an absolutely terrific networking event
enabled me to make contact with colleagues all over the world and
there’s no doubt that with a combined WCO and AAO meeting you can meet some really interesting people you can have a bit of a fun time and who knows
and you might sort your holidays out in the future. The global impact on vision
has so many effects on patient health and we are important in this and
optometrists pay an amazing role. Having a meeting where we are recognizing that
and we’re recognizing our efforts and we’re going forward to push those
efforts globally I think really means you should be there, you should be part
of it. I’ll see you in Orlando
